Goodbye 2008 Hello 2009

A thank you note…

Before I head down to party… I shall just do my last entry for 2008 first …
Sometimes its essential to learn to sit down and take a couple of minutes with yourself. Just some alone time with yourself. I don’t think I’ve done much of this year and I definitely didn’t allow u to. That’s probably something I’d have to learn in the coming year.

I would say that 2008 has been a year that I’ve grown to accept certain things the way they are (and am still learning too) and a rather meaningful and purposeful year too. I’ve grown closer to some friends and definitely distanced from some. Wanna apologize for that. Its the time issue and of cos many other contributing factors that I can list, if I want to. Of cos I’ve made a couple of new ones too and I’m glad it did.

A few have left abroad and I can’t wait for them to get back soon. Lots of catching up to do! I miss having high tea with u guys.

Working with the Action for AIDS Singapore was a fantastic adventure in which I learnt alot. Not exactly entirely life altering but rather, has given me new perspectives to view life and the vulnerabilities and uncertainties it brings. That was great.

I still have to say the same thing : work harder for 2009 academically. Things can always be better right, friends? :) Haha…

Emotion wise, it was less of a rollercoaster ride. Though struggles with myself are still relatively common. I’ve learnt to deal with them but sometimes they tend to overcome me, heart or head? Still a question left unanswered.

I’ve been fortunate that I got to travel thrice this year. Its not too bad I must say. This probably will decrease next year due to economic situation. Haha…

1) Manila

2) Genting / KL

3) Bali

Great company and most definitely something I wished could be done more often! Traveling’s just so fun to do :) Expanding one’s knowledge on a first hand basis, soaking into others’ culture and learning to (easily) identify (and avoid) the ugly singaporean idiosyncrasies when u’re abroad. “Not nice lah

Come to think about it, another year has just passed by like that. But that’s what everyone says. Thinking back, it seems so fast but going through it seems so long. I am sure there have been many other significant events that has happened. Its either I don’t want to remember it or I just can’t. Nonetheless, its the past that made me who I am today. Oh… my hand injury was not the highlight of the year! Just bad it had to happen! Other than that, the general feel of 2008 has been a rather a good one :)

2009’s resolutions? Wait… I haven’t thought about it yet. Hmm…

for work
I went from a designer engineer to a supervisor… alot movement and every move I made, the more I hated working ppl, there are not any nicer than the previous batch. Did alot stupid stuff and backstabbed by colleagues and workers out there. HEY THANKS… I think I am GOD! I dun bleed when u backstabbed me! TRY HARDER NEXT YEAR OK? CALL ME GOD

for family
I am much closer to both my sisters than before… yeah we did have more gathering with aunty and all… lovely :)

for friends
I did wat I promised… I met up with almost all my friends from Pri sch, Sec sch, Citibank, Swimming Instructor, Navy, TP classmates, Sports Club mates, other friends… been really good… met alot new people and my hp is keeping up with alot of new numbers every month…! Haha…

To Elaine, Thanks for being greatest friend one could ask for. In any case, thanks for helping me and putting up with my infinite orders. Thanks for listening to my bitching about everyone in this world. I’ll be sure to keep you as a close friend, because I didnt want all my dark secrets to be released all to the world. Haha…

To Junfen, We know each other well enough. Words just can’t described how good we are. Haha, alot of understanding needed and you managed this friendship well. :D YEAH? For as long as u’re happy, Elaine and I also. Looking forwards to seeing u soon. Take care.

To Daniel, You’re my forever MIA friend, forever procastinator ( just like me). I think we know it best (: Haha… it’s been long since we met! And New Year alrd uncle, when are we meeting up!

To Gary, Man, you know u’re one hellya of a best friend. You know me well-enough, bro!14 years friend! (: Need me to say more? You know how much I treasure you can alrd (: and that this comin’ year, I should really attempt not to be late, haha, again. I TRY. HAHAHA, seriously can be my 2009’s resolution :D HAHA!

Yongsheng, Junting, Ronghua, Siseng and the Rest of the “Lao” Royal Family, thanks for being in the “Lao” Royal Family. It’s been total fun and its suck that I’ve grown apart from you people inrecent months. We’ve had hilarious memories together. Thanks too to Joel for tons of exile goodies of shopping and constantly gossips.

To Someone, I’m glad we have put an end to everything in 2008, 2009 will be a better year, for u and for me too, thou there are still questions that I wanna ask u, but ya, it’s our past… for now, we are hao peng you (: hello fren! Happy New Year!

Lastly, I love every single one of you who are not mention. As long as you’re reading, I love you too (:

Have A Wonderfully Blessed 2009!!!

Best of 2008 - Best Movie of the Year

#20. WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS

Lucky for viewers, it’s easy to laugh while watching this romantic comedy, mostly because of the comic skills Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz bring to their performances.

#19. Wall-E

What transpires is a delightful and almost heartbreakingly tender love story between these two expressive and adorable characters.

#18. THE LEAP YEARS

The movie boosted of a capable supporting cast, though I wish I have two Eurasian friends like Wong Li-lin in the movie. Jason Chen, turned in a credible performance as Raymond, Li-lin’s almost-husband. Kudos too, to Vernetta Lopez’s minor stony lesbian character: finally gay themes are broached, albeit superficially, without resorting to in-your-face nude men wrangling and screaming.

#17. STEP UP 2: THE STREETS

The sound and dance were sooo good that I actually felt like dancing on my seat.

#16. IRON MAN

A slickly-attractive, well-cast and solidly-constructed piece of mainstream action-adventure entertainment.

#15. THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN

Great visual effect which make the centuars look very realistic. Long movie and great combat action

#14. ACCURACY OF DEATH

The story was linked wonderfully, bringing surprises throughout the movie, although there are certain parts where it’s predictable. Being a movie based on the novel, it had truly bring out what the author wrote in the novel.

#13. BANGKOK LOVE STORY

It was indeed a surprise to have such an emotional piece of movie out from BKK movie entertainment. Typically their gay movies are about sissy or lady-boys. But BKK Love Story is emotional and will sure to bring out your tears! Be warned and of course it doesnt hurt that the boys are v attractive!

#12. HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3: SENIOR YEAR

A sweet and romantic movie. The songs are better than before. Kinda sad to see HSM have come to an end, but I am glad Troy and Gabriella choose to be together.

#11. MAMMA MIA!

Mamma Mia! has an exclamation in its title for a reason - it just wants to shout out its sense of fun. The film is buoyantly unpretentious and proclaims at the top of its voice, “Take me as I am.” I never thought I’d enjoy nearly two hours of ABBA songs but I guess I was wrong. But let’s try to keep that out little secret.

#10. SEX AND THE CITY

The movie contains story lines strong enough to entertain both men and women. It did about as much as I could hope for. It gives all four of its main characters plenty to do, it pays tribute to what’s best about the series and it gives us another chance to spend time with people we thought we might never see again.

#09. CAPE NO. 7

Every role in the movie has their own story, beside there are plenty of tears and happiness. Love the songs in the movie the most. Though, it’s not a perfect movie but it’s a impressive and sincere movie definetely.

#08. SAW V

The Saw franchise continues to provide at least one decent horror film to look forward to at Halloween.

#07. THE GOOD THE BAD THE WEIRD

It’s exciting, funny, thrilling, and as entertaining as hell - and proves, if proof be needed, that genre knows no borders.

#06. SKY OF LOVE

Three words… Sweet, simple and beautiful… A nice movie that truly touched ones heart.

#05. THE KITE RUNNER

Friendship, loyalty, tragedy, and politics are themes sensitively and sometimes terrifyingly examined. But the film’s hopeful spirit hits home despite the differences in our culture and language.

#04. IP MAN

If you are a martial arts movie fan, this is definitely stunning and not to be missed. If you get entertained by any form of action and want to know the facts of Bruce Lee’s master, this should also not be missed. Agood martial arts movie.

#03. THE INCREDIBLE HULK

In terms of being faithful to the comic and giving us the kind of big screen superhero entertainment that we want, The Incredible Hulk is definitely the more satisfying of the two.

#02. SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET

Sweeney Todd ranks among this year’s most intense, haunting, and startling films; the fact that it also features great songs by Stephen Sondheim is just gravy on the meat pie.

#01. THE DARK KNIGHT

With only three short words comprising the film’s enigmatic title, it also boasts three epic claims to fame: the role of a lifetime for the late Heath Ledger, one of the best films of 2008 and one of the greatest superhero films of all time!

The Strength of a Man

The strength of a man isn’t seen in the width of his shoulders.

It’s in the width of his arms that encircle you.

The strength of a man isn’t in the deep tone of his voice.

It’s in the gentle words he whispers.

The strength of a man isn’t how many buddies he has.

It’s how good a buddy he is with his children.

The strength of a man isn’t in how respected he is at work.

It’s in how respected he is at home.

The strength of a man isn’t in how hard he hits.

It’s in how tender he touches.

The strength of a man isn’t in the hair on his chest.

It’s in his heart, that lies within his chest.

The strength of a man isn’t how many women he’s loved.

It’s in being true to one woman.

The strength of a man isn’t in the weight he can lift.

It’s in the burdens he can carry.

3 more days to 2009, Are you excited about year 2009 too?

Happy Boxing Day / Best of 2008 - Most Played Songs Of The Year

Happy Boxing Day everyone! Have you open your presents yet?

Thank you Joe, Elaine and Jinfen for the present & card, it really means alot to me.

So today is boxing day… quite a few friends asked me what “boxing day” means…
It is derived from the past when there were large households and a very distinct social class structure. The BIG houses would be full of serving staff members and they would all need to work over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to serve at the lovely parties and Christmas Day lunch etc…

So these serving staff would have their day off only on the day after Christmas ie: the 26th. As a token of appreciation to the staff and their families for their “lost Christmas”, the Lords and Ladies would “box” up food and presents and also the traditional Christmas bonus for the staff members to take home and celebrate their christmas with their own families. It was a time of great rejoicing of the working class populace as it was THEIR Christmas on the 26th.

Later on, esp during the Victorian times, there were fewer staff members in households and more and more households would actually permit their staff to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off with their families. The staff would return on the day after and help “box” the left over food or other Christmas lovely gifts to be distributed to the orphanages and the soup kitchens around the city of london. Hence the tradition of “boxing” food and gifts to the less fortunate came about (or at least to do some charitable work).

So there u go… BOXING day!

Merry Xmas / Best of 2008 - Best Music Video of the Year

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

This year’s Christmas is quiet for me. Somewhat, I enjoy this peaceful feeling. Although I really have the urge to be out now; catch a movie, have a christmas meal, I guess this year I shall make it an exception.

I am glad that I received quite a couple of greetings from friends. Thank you! And those who are currently out partying, single or attached, enjoy yourself for tonight is the night!

Blessing

Its always nice to share your joy with the ones you love.
This sharing strengthens the bond as you rejoice in each other’s success.

The Lord’s abundance love for us exceeds our expectations. He rejoices when He blesses us and know that we are blessed. Like wise, when we receive the blessings, we should share our joy with Him who provides for us right? Tell the Lord how much you love Him and how much you appreciate all that He has done for you.

In spite of the little that you have in your life today. Thank the Lord that at least you have that “little” in your life. The Lord will surely turn around your lack and provide you with so much more you will be over whelmed.

Remember how He multiplied the 5 loaves and 2 fishes? He will SURELY do that same in your life for the little that you have. “But Lord, I don’t see you doing anything now?” you might ask. He is preparing your vessel!! Be patience sia~~ if He is going to give you a bountiful harvest and you only got a small basket… how to contain all the goodness right?

The Lord has everything planned out for you and you know it WILL BE good because its from that Lord!!!

Be blessed this week. Amen!

Ip Man

Ip Man

Starring: Mallika Sherawath, Lynn Hung, Simon Yam, Donnie Yen

Directed By: Wilson Yip

Released By: 18th December 2008

Run Time: 108 mins.

Genre: Action

Adapted from the life story of Ip Man - the grand master of the Wing Chun style of kung fu and sifu of legendary kung fu superstar Bruce Lee. This movie will be the first important record of the master’s life. Ip’s persistent devotion to Wing Chun is a classic example of the love and respect shown to wushu and the freedom and spirit it represents. Ip Man is a concept, a spirit, a way of thinking - and it exemplifies a new peak in Hong Kong’s wushu movies.

What can I say, always have been a fan of Donnie for his calmness and ability to be funny when required. Jet Li, for all his acrobatic asskicking lacks the charm exuded by Donnie. The storyline of the movie is nothing original, bad ass kung fu guy has loads of skill and honour, defies big baddy and saves the day. However, the direction of the movie is fantastic, there is never a moment where u wished the movie was faster or slower. Even during the certain poignant scenes that were meant for character development, it was well done, making u feel for the characters involved. The cheorography is fantastic, with the right dosage of “hard to believe” moves (off your feet falling on the ground and bouncing back up with just your hands?!). Just enjoy it when you catch the movie, dont have to say much. However, if anything, Ip man is just way too powerful. Even the final scene, the japanese that is supposed to be all bad ass managed to only land 3 hits on him before Donnie Yen opens up a can of whoopass on him with the visually delightful lightning fists. All in all, an awesome movie and a must watch for all kung fu fans!

Never Lose Hope

Today blog, is delicate to a friend who has been very troubled and lost lately. Hope he will recover and be fine very soon.

One day, the villagers decided to pray for rain. On the day of prayer everyone gathered & only 1 boy came with an umbrella.

That’s CONFIDENCE.

When you throw a 1 year old baby in the air, he laughs because he knows you will catch him.

That’s TRUST.

Every night we go to bed, we’re not sure that we’ll get up tomorrow, but we still have many plans for the coming day.

That’s HOPE.

Have confidence, believe in God & never lose hope!
