Aga, a band singer, returns to Hengchun with frustration. Tomoko is a Japanese model assigned to organise a local warm-up band for the Japanese superstar’s beach concert. Together with five other ordinary Hengchun residents who never expected to be anybody in life, they formed an impossible band.

This is not a cool film but warm. It is not intended to be a box-office monster but for ordinary people to enjoy and laugh. It is “old-fashioned” but does not fit into one of those hackneyed hollywood formulas. People may find it too Taiwanese, truely so because it is made in Taiwan by local movieworkers, and they know exactly what they are doing. Perhaps there are places to criticize, but none can stop me loving this film. Cape no. 7 is loaded with hearts and passions that we have lost patience for. It moves me. Just go and enjoy!

Movie Review (A-)

I suppose most of you know about the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai. It was scary when I first saw it over the news because I just watched ‘Body of Lies’ on Wednesday! I’m not going to blabber on how good ‘Body of Lies’ is, so if you’re interested in a good film go watch it. The film serves as a reminder to us that terror threat is an on-going activity and there are uncountable people waiting in line to blow up themselves or go around shooting people.

But apart from all that, it is the film’s relevancy that really shook me. In this supposedly safe country, I don’t know about how you feel but I personally feel detached from whatever war that is on-going on the other side of the planet, especially so when the reporting has subsided in Iraq / Afghanistan / wherever the troops are.

Whenever I get emotional, I start to think of all sorts of stuff which is actually happening around the world but we choose to ignore it. Like for example, when we’re having our you tiao with soy bean for breakfast, some person might just decide to blow himself into pieces and bring many others with him, for whatever reasons he might have. And I’ll think of the soldiers who aren’t there voluntarily. I bet their only wish is to come home alive in one piece, that’s why they’re fighting so hard for the war to end.

And when I think of unvoluntary service, I think of MYSELF. *tsk….*

IF there weren’t people like these around, why would we need to fight in the first place?

The cycle just keeps going on and on and on. We kill them. They kill us.

It is a terribly sad world we’re living in.

Recently quite a number of unhappy incidents that I knew. Stay happy friends! LIFE still goes on!

Body Of Lies

Based on Washington Post columnist David Ignatius’ 2007 novel about a CIA operative, Roger Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio), who uncovers a lead on a major terrorist leader suspected to be operating out of Jordan. When Ferris devises a plan to infiltrate his network, he must first win the backing of cunning CIA veteran Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe) and the collegial, but perhaps suspect, head of Jordanian intelligence. Although ostensibly his allies, Ferris questions how far he can really trust these men without putting his entire operation - and his life - on the line.

Apparently the main reason for the failure is that the current economy situation of the world is in re-cession period thus people want to watch another movies that has nothing to do with politics or else. However, Body of Lies is actually a satisfying movie that has great star power and plot. The bad thing about the movie is that it runs for 128 minutes thus draggy scenes can be found throughout the movie. If only they make it shorter, Body of Lies actually has the potential to become a solid action and thriller movie. Too bad…

Movie Review (B)

November as a month draws its last days, and here I am again, reciting the occurences of this month that has brought much laughter, fun and its fair share of gruel. Looking forward to December, I’m excited for Christmas, but rather sad that it marks the end of the annual year, 2008… oh well, all good things must come to an end, right?

Christmas is so near! (okay, fine, its actually like a month away), but the decorations are up already! And I think they’re really beautiful… serenity would a be a word to describe the true setting of christmas though… but we always make do with it right. Just like that gate at CHIJMES! it reads “City Of Angels” if you cant make it out.

How do we say NO with technique… so that people accept it readily.

I did a little survey today. Hee hee… just to find out what’s happening around me… I know I’m too free today lah… but the answer was fun…

I turned to her and said, “Do you want to have sex?”

“No,” she answered.

I then said, “Is that your final answer?”

She didn’t even look at me this time, simply saying “Yes.”

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

When New York Zoo Animals Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo finally leave Madagascar, they find themselves instead stuck in the wilderness of Africa. There, Alex connects with his roots when he meets the rest of his family, but has trouble communicating with them after spending most of his life at the Central Park Zoo.

Great fun and laughs with each of the main characters has a story to tell… Animation was quite detailed and storyline humorously interesting. Best scenes when monkeys went on strike , did the ladder formation and got the communication all distorted! I’m not the kind of guy who likes animation but madagascar 2 is very exceptional. Trust me, if understand their jargons, u’ll love it..and u dun have to be new yorker!
