times flies / The Spiderwick Chronicles

Almost over… at this stage.
How times flies… Really…
Thinking back… Reminiscing…
I miss my life.
I miss the times which I don’t need to see that far.
I miss the days I just have to enjoy this very moment.
I miss the moments which I can only remember I was laughing my heart and soul out.
My life seems to be missing something.
Happiness seems alot shorter.
It doesn’t stay that much longer.
I don’t seem to remember how I pass all this times.
Is it forgettable? Or is it not memorable?
At this stage…
What can it be?
Let it be…?

The Spiderwick Chronicles

Starring: Freddie Highmore, Mary-Louise Parker, Sarah Bolger, Michael Kahn, David Strathairn
Directed By: Mark Waters
Released By: 13th March 2008
Run Time: 96 mins.
Genre: Drama / Family / Fantasy / Action

Upon moving into the run-down Spiderwick Estate with their mother, twin brothers Jared and Simon, along with their sister Mallory, find themselves pulled into an alternate world full of faeries, hobgoblins, brownies and ogres.

This movie is superbly entertaining. Never try to dismiss this as another kiddy show, because I actually did, but was plesantly surprised that it is very well-made. The goblins, faries, visuals, and characters are well-crafted, and what Mark Waters showed us is a enchanted magical world of wonders. For a moment, you’ll be dying to be part of this fantasy. The ogres are creepy and evil enough to scare up little childrens. Characters have enough depth to make you feel for them. And the ending can tear you somehow. This is where children fantasy can take you to.

Step Up 2: The Streets

Step Up 2: The Streets

Starring: Robbert Hoffman, Jennifer Rouse, Telisha Shaw, Briana Evigan, Tony Devon
Directed By: Jon Chu
Released By: 13th March 2008
Run Time: 98 mins.
Genre: Romance / Music

In this sequel to the 2006 “Step Up”, Andie is a newcomer at the Maryland School of the Arts, and her bad girl streak threatens to keep her from finding her place. She’s not exactly the most liked student in school but she soon pairs up with a student very different from her, the popular Chase. The two soon find a group of students to dance in a secret competition that suits Andie’s talents. Romance eventually sparks between the two dance students from very different backgrounds.

The storyline gets draggy and boring from the start to the middle and only picks up after they formed a crew. Nevertheless, the dance scenes were put together neatly and the dance moves were inspiring. The stunts they did were awesomed and it’s worthy of your eyes. I dare not say it’s a must watch but do try and catch it while you can :)

What Kind of Puzzle Are You?

What Kind of Puzzle Are You?

You Are a Jigsaw Puzzle
You are a complex person, although at first glance you seem quite simple.
Your personality is comprised of many interesting and distinct pieces.
You are captivating and often visually interesting. You can be seen from many angles.
What Kind of Puzzle Are You?

10,000 B.C.

I’m living with a totally wrong concept - I expect. People should. Who ends up miserable?
I can never be contented with what I have.

Me, of course! ME only!
This is tiring.
For once, I ask myself: am I going to make the change. Or am I waiting for change to take place by itself.
I also hate the feeling of living for others.
In the process, I neglect myself. I neglect the rest of the world. Misery spreads… all coz I chose to live for others.
How irony.
Everything the feeling sets in, I sleep… for hours and hours, throughout the day. Till the night… as if hoping to erase the agony.
One word: pathetic.
It’s time to start learning. To love myself more indefinitely. To be happy.
Coz I’m sick of this lifestyle. I’m sick of living for others. I’m sick of this me.

Starring: Steven Strait, Marco Khanlian, Omar Sharif, Camilla Belle, Cliff Curtis

Directed By: Roland Emmerich

Released By: 6th March 2008

Run Time: 109 mins.

Genre: Drama / Action

It was a time when men and beast were untamed and the mighty mammoth roamed the earth. A time when ideas and beliefs were born that forever shaped mankind. “10,000 BC” follows a young hunter (Steven Strait) on his quest to lead an army across a vast desert, battling sabre-toothed tigers and prehistoric predators as he unearths a lost civilisation and attempts to rescue the woman he loves (Camilla Belle) from an evil warlord determined to possess her.

This movie really moved me, but not in a good way. It left me fidgeting in my seat, waiting for it to end.
This movie shouldn’t even be called 10,000BC, it should be called 100BC instead. And by changing the title, means removing the sightings of prehistoric creatures, i.e the Sabertooth Tiger and the Mammoths. Supposedly meant to portray the lives and adventures of a caveman and his tribe, instead they added in civilisation, which was totally inappropriate. How can there be civilisation when mammoths and sabertooth tigers are still around??? Moreover, it was a rip off of the movie Apocalypto. I watched Apocalypto, and I found the movie to be a worthy movie to watch. But this movie, even though its a rip off, does not stand up to Apocalypto. It seems that in most parts of the movie, the director was very confused and just wanted to add a scene in to cover up the portholes. The poster is very deceiving. The “fierce” Sabertooth tiger portrayed on the poster did not even fight with the hero, instead it acted with compassion in front of him. When it comes to wild animals, there is no such thing as compassion. It seems like the sabertooth had already eaten before appearing at the scene of the “African tribe”, therefore not wanting to eat the people there. Despite all the criticism, there were some good parts of the movie, like the background scenery, and the lead actors, used as eye-candy for some of the viewers. This movie proves to you that even good directors are capable of making dreadful movies.
(ps: This movie has just given me 10,000 reasons to “Bo-Chap”* it. haha! Get it, Bo-Chap =BC.)

Sky Of Love

 Sky Of Love

Starring: Haruma Miura, Yui Aragaki

Directed By: Natsuki Imai

Released By: 6th March 2008

Run Time: 120 mins.

Genre: Romance / Drama

Based on a cell-phone novel that moved 11 million people to tears, “Sky of Love” is a story about a regular girl’s three stormy years in high school. While her friends are absorbed about their boyfriends, Mika is clueless about falling in love. She begins receiving phone calls from a boy she doesn’t know and is gradually drawn to him. She finally meets him but their happy days soon pass as trouble is brewing on the horizon.

This is one of those films that really remind you of what it was like to fall in love for the first time. From late-night conversations that last till dawn, to the sercet trysts you shared while skipping schools, watching Hero and Mika frolicking definitely makes me nostalgic for those dreamy days.

Be warned, though, if you’re allergic to melodrama: teen pregnancy, death and ex-girlfriend-motivated gang attacks are just some of the too-crazy-to-be-true problems plaguing thr happy couple. But who cares? This flick is a real guilty pleasure for die-hard romantics: there’s eye candy, lots of soppy excuses to cry and an unbelievably touching bond between Hiro and Mika.

You’ll want to watch the sky after watching this.

Bangkok Love Story

Bangkok Love Story

Starring: Rattaballung Toesawat, Chaiwat Tongsang

Directed By: Poj ArnonReleased By: 6th March 2008

Run Time: 150 mins.

Genre: Romance / Drama

Steamy Thai nights set the stage for a forbidden romance in this stirring drama. “Bangkok Love Story” tells the story of Maek (Rattanaballang Tohssawat), an assassin who is sent to kill Iht (Chaiwat Tongsaeng). However, a twist of fate brings the men together, and Maek refuses to kill Iht and takes a bullet in a gunfight. Iht takes Maek to a safe house and nurses him back to health. A strong bond develops between them, revealing emotions from the men’s hearts to each other.

Going by the poster and the slick website, you can easily be fooled into thinking this was a movie well worth your time, a tale of forbidden love between two hunky males against a backdrop of crime and having circumstances going well against them. Movies with homosexual themes are nothing new here, although they still are a rarity. Most that made it here are of of critical acclaim, but somehow Bangkok Love Story fell through the quality control cracks and churned out something so bad, it was entertaining for all the wrong reasons. The only redeeming factor in this unintentional comedy, is the cinematography. Simply put, it is gorgeous to look at, with the varying angles and unbelievable palette of colours to evoke the moodiness and frustrations of the characters in missing, longing and denying someone. Which is a real pity for its technical strength to be wasted on a story which seemed to pour on every conceivable cliche you can possibly think of, with sub plots of discrimination by disease, revenge, love, hate, and heavy handed with its liberal dose of melodrama, throwing everything including the kitchen sink to bloat the story, and leave it plodding.

You don’t feel anything for any of the characters, and that is what ultimately sinks this love story.

The Eye

Everyone has a limit to everything. And once the line is crossed, even a deepest sorry can’t amend the hurt you have caused.

I know you were feeling all so ‘EMO’! What the heck is that supposed to mean? In other words, if everyone is feeling ‘EMO’, hence emokiddos have the right to say anything out from their emo mouths?!?!? And we, the bystanders have to take in all these shits?

Right, we could. Only to a certain extent. And this time, you had gone too far.

I can’t believe you were once so nice to me. I must be blind. With your nice actions and words.

I truly despise you to the lowest.

That aside.

Ok. I’m excited.

Meeting Gary today for dinner and movie!!! Yummy! But movie was disappointed.

The Eye

Starring: Jessica Alba, Parker Posey, Chloe Moretz, Aaron Paul, Alessandro Nivola

Directed By: Xavier Palud, David Moreau

Released By: 28th February 2008

Run Time: 95 mins.

Genre: Drama / Thriller / Horror

Sydney Wells is an accomplished concert violinist. She is also blind and has been so since a childhood tragedy. However, Sydney undergoes a double corneal transplant, a surgery she has waited her whole life to have. After the surgery, neural ophthalmologist Dr. Faulkner helps Sydney with the difficult adjustment, and with the support of her older sister Helen, Sydney learns to see again. Alas, Sydney’s happiness is short-lived as frightening visions start to haunt her. Are they passing effects of her surgery or something horrifyingly real? As Sydney’s family and friends begin to doubt her sanity, she is soon convinced that her anonymous eye donor has somehow opened the door to a terrifying world which only she can see.

Hollywood is up for remakes of Asian horror now, after One Missed Call, now The Eye, what’s next is Shutter. The movie starts off REAL slow. Jessica Alba plays Sydney Wells - a blind musician. She gets a cornea transplant. Blah blah… start to sight weird things. Confides in her dumb or dumber eye doc who rolls his eyes at an annoying frequency. At the 1 hour mark, the movie only managed to squeeze out 14 yawns and 1 restroom visit from yours truly. To summarize, no one should ever watch this show on a first date as this show is so bad that it could end up as your last date. And good news for insomniacs (no reason to pop pills when you have this sleep inducing show on hand).
