Movie Review (B+)

“Every human being has an appointment with God to leave behind the memories and burdens in this beautiful world. Its just that yours was slightly earlier.”

I may not know you guys. But I do share the same sadness as anyone else. Reading the news articles bring tears to almost everyone’s eyes. But at the very least, am glad that they’ve enjoyed their last moments doing something they really love. They’ve gained the respect of many for representing Singapore.

Rest in peace wherever you may be. You will be remembered.

With Love,

Kelvin

Please pay your last respect for those you know.

Even though I do not know these guys at all I am still affected by this news. Read the papers, viewed some of their blogs and friendsters. Some of these guys seem to be such nice and promising fellows. So young, so dynamic and living their life to the fullest. There are certain things in them that are really worth me learning from. Life is really short, and very unpredictable. Should dare to dream, and dare to venture and do things we have always wanted to do, before its too late.

Reflection

Looking back on my life and seeing what I’ve achieved so far, who I’ve impacted so far and how I’ve tried changing the world seems abliss. Insignificant.

Nothing seems real when I really take a close look at it.

Superficiality is everywhere and what lies beneath is secondary in nature.

I was reading this mag when i stumbled upon this sentence which I felt mattered to me alot :

“Often good looking ppl are so caught up with their looks that their personality suffers, Their drawbacks are vainity and self-absorption. They are generally not to blame becoz ppl allow them to act this way. When the lose their looks, they often end up lonely becoz they did not develop personality traits that matter.”

My life reflects just this. Sometimes I wonder whether I have frens who love me for me. I wonder if they truly know me for whats beneath rather then whats on the surface. I wonder… I wonder… there are so many questions I wanna ask but yet I know the answer is often difficult to get.

Probably afraid of the truth???

After seeing someone’s good looks become a Blessing & yet a Curse at the same time really got me thinking. Got me worried.

This world we live in is so superficial, where slim is in and fat is out. Where sharp features determine superiority.

I don’t want to be a superficial person, I don’t want to be that vain guy u see, I don’t want to be a narcissist.

Lust, Caution

Starring: Tony Leung ChiuWai, LeeHom Wang, Joan Chen, Lee Hom Wang, Tang Wei

Directed By: Ang Lee

Released By: 4th October 2007

Run Time: 148 mins.

Genre: Romance / Thriller

Director Ang Lee’s new film, following his Academy Award win for directing “Brokeback Mountain,” is an espionage thriller set in WWII-era Shanghai. Asian cinema icon Tony Leung Chiu Wai (”Hero”, “In The Mood For Love”) stars as Mr. Yee, a powerful political figure in 1940’s Shanghai. Tang Wei, a rising star in mainland China, makes her feature film debut as Wang Jiazhi, a young woman who gets swept up in a dangerous game of emotional intrigue with Mr. Yee. Joan Chen plays the wife of Mr. Yee but it is the role of Tang Wei as the student that will have a hand in trying to assassinate the intelligence chief of a Japanese-backed Chinese government.

I guess many people will watch this movie for the notoriously graphic sex scenes. But what surprised me was how well the story was developed and the acting of Tony Leung and Tang Wei. Being a relatively fresh actress, Tang has portrayed her role superbly from an innocent, idealistic student to a suave, smooth-operator wife with seductive looks. Tony’s character appears elusive and mysterious, looks cold and unfeeling but as the story moves, you could see how the character melts in the arms of his seductress and unfold his heart and feeling towards her (also well acted out). The bittersweet ending gives the movie a realistic touch and makes it a sad love story. Anyone who has watched the censored version and did not wholly understand it the first time, I highly encourage a second screening. Well if you still do not enjoy it, at least you got to watch the sex scenes!

Movie Review (A+)

“People should learn to relax.
Otherwise, more then often, they will break down,
and cry.
But its alright.
They just gotta learn to pick themselves up. ”

Saw IV

Starring: Tobin Bell, Scott Patterson

Directed By: Franck Khalfoun, Darren Lynn Bousman

Released By: 8th November 2007

Run Time: 93 mins.

Genre: Horror

Jigsaw and his apprentice Amanda are dead. Upon the news of Detective Kerry’s murder, two seasoned FBI profilers, Agent Straham (Scott Patterson) and Agent Perez, arrive at the depleted police precinct to help veteran Detective Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) sift through Jigsaw’s latest grizzly game and piece together the puzzle. However, when SWAT Commander Rigg, the last officer untouched by Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), is suddenly abducted and thrust into the madman’s harrowing game, the officer has 90 minutes to overcome a series of interconnected traps…or face the deadly consequences. Rigg’s citywide pursuit leaves a wake of dead bodies, and Hoffman and the FBI uncover clues that lead them back to Jigsaw’s ex-wife Jill (Betsy Russell).

Not bad for a fourth movie but I guess I’ve been spoilt by the previous three, not enough imagination for the traps, no way near enough shock and cringe gore and unnecessarily complicated even though the story does make sense eventually, could have been better…..
